Laser Welding

Handheld fibre laser welders — supplied with training & support by A1.

Handheld laser welding has earned its place on the fabrication floor fast, for a reason: deep penetration with minimal heat input, far less distortion on thin material, and a learning curve a fraction of TIG's. A1 supplies handheld fibre laser welding machines and — just as importantly — sets them up safely and trains your operators on them.

The part most listings skip: these are Class 4 laser devices under AS/NZS IEC 60825.1, the highest laser hazard class. They belong in a controlled workshop with a screened work area, laser-rated PPE and trained operators. A1 supplies the machine with the safety setup and training conversation built in, not bolted on.

Common questions

Is laser welding as strong as TIG?

On thin material, comparable and often better — deep penetration with low heat input means less distortion, and test failures typically occur in the parent metal rather than the weld. TIG keeps the edge on thick sections and difficult positions.

Do I need training or a special setup to run a laser welder in Australia?

Yes. Handheld laser welders are Class 4 lasers under AS/NZS IEC 60825.1 — they require a controlled, screened work area, laser-rated PPE and trained operators, and they're not for open construction sites. A1 covers the safety setup and operator training as part of supply.

Air-cooled or water-cooled laser welder?

Air-cooled units are cheaper and portable but duty-cycle limited; water-cooled machines sustain industrial duty at higher power and are the standard for production use. Match it to how many hours a day the machine will actually run.
