Press Brakes
CNC & hydraulic press brakes, 35–300 tonnes — new and used, supplied & supported by A1.
A press brake is the machine most fabrication shops live or die by — and the purchase they can least afford to get wrong. A1 supplies CNC and hydraulic press brakes from 35 to 300 tonnes, new and used, and services what it sells: the same technician who helps you choose the machine installs it, programs the control, and keeps it running.

The spec sheet is the easy half. Tonnage, bed length and the CNC control decide what the machine can do; who commissions it, sets the crowning, builds the tooling library and answers the phone when it faults decides what it actually does in your shop. Jan is factory-trained on the controls these machines run — Delem, Cybelec, Heidenhain and more — which is why buying the brake and buying the support are the same conversation here.
If you've been searching for a brake press, you're in the right place — same machine, two word orders. Not sure on size? Start with the parts you bend: material, thickness, and the longest flange you need. Call and describe the work, and we'll tell you plainly what fits — including when a smaller machine or a good used brake is the honest answer.
Common questions
What tonnage press brake do I need?
It depends on material, thickness, bend length and the V-die opening — as a rule of thumb the V-opening runs about 8× material thickness, and air bending needs far less force than coining. Stainless needs roughly 40–60% more tonnage than mild steel; aluminium less. Tell us the thickest, longest part you bend and we'll work the number properly, with margin.
What's the difference between a press brake and a brake press?
Nothing — they're the same machine. "Press brake" is the industry-standard term; "brake press" is the common workshop word order in Australia. Folders and pan brakes are a different machine again, for thin sheet and long, shallow flanges.
Hydraulic or electric press brake?
Electric (servo) brakes are faster, more precise and cheaper to run, and suit most work up to around 300 tonnes. Hydraulics cost less per tonne and go far larger. For a typical job shop bending mixed work, the control and tooling usually matter more than the drive type.
How much does a CNC press brake cost in Australia?
As a rough guide the market runs from tens of thousands for entry imported machines to well past $250,000 for high-tonnage European brakes — and the landed price is only part of it: freight, installation, commissioning, tooling and training all count. A1 quotes the whole picture, not just the box.
Why does my press brake bend a different angle at each end?
Usually ram-to-bed parallelism, worn tooling, missing crowning compensation, or thickness variation in the material — a 0.1 mm penetration error is roughly a quarter of a degree. It's fixable: calibration and crowning setup is standard service work for A1.
