Guillotine Service & Blade Setting
Blade changeover, clearance setting, hold-down and hydraulic work — straight, burr-free cuts restored.
A guillotine only does one thing — so when the edge goes bad, everything downstream inherits the problem: blanks out of square, burrs into the brake tooling, rework at the weld bay. Blade setting is precise, safety-critical work, and it's one of A1's standard services.
A1 services hydraulic guillotines across the major brands — blade changeover and clearance setting, hold-down timing, hydraulics and back-gauge accuracy — across SE Queensland, regardless of where the machine was bought.

What the work covers
- Blade changeover — removal, fitting (including your reground blades), and clearance setting to the material you cut
- Blade gap setup — the 5–10%-of-thickness setting that decides edge quality
- Hold-down service — timing and pressure so sheet doesn't creep mid-cut
- Hydraulic work: valves, seals, pumps and pressure setting
- Back gauge accuracy and squaring-arm checks
- Installation, levelling and commissioning of new and used guillotines
Common questions
My guillotine is leaving a burr — do I need new blades?
Not necessarily. Before blaming the blades, check the gap: set wrong for the thickness — or sitting on worn blade seats — it produces the same rolled, burred edge blunt blades do. A1 measures and diagnoses which it is before you spend on regrinding or new steel.
How often should guillotine blades be turned or reground?
It depends on what you cut — stainless and high-tensile work blunts edges far faster than mild steel. Most blades have four usable edges; when the last is gone they're reground. If cut quality is drifting, that's the machine telling you it's time.
Can you set up a second-hand guillotine we've bought?
Yes — installation, levelling, blade and clearance setup, hold-down timing and back-gauge calibration. A used guillotine set up properly cuts like it should; moved and dropped into place, it rarely does.
